Hey Mom, Don't Cook!
Do you know that feeling that you are judged by one mistake? In several occasions, I fail to cook wonderful meals for my kids and they don't forget. That's why they always doubt good food will come out of the kitchen if I'm cooking.
Last Saturday, because I was so bored and exhausted after their three-day quarterly exam, I looked for something different to eat. Unfortunately, it's also almost time for our grocery day meaning most of the foods and snacks are gone. I saw the crackers that my mother cooks for my kids all the time and I thought I can cook some and share with the kids.
My kids found out my plan. It seemed they can sense food anywhere and anytime because they all went to the kitchen and checked out what I am doing. My daughter's quite unsupportive thinking that I would fail to fry the simple crackers while my sons waited before they throw their verdict.
I did not bother to read instructions if there is any. I heat up the non-stick frypan and pour a little amount of oil. The fire was so low because I did not want to burn the crackers. However, my first attempt was an effin' failure!!! I should've waited for the oil to be really hot, should've put more oil and I should've cooked it quickly.
I served it to my kids while being apologetic and they all chorused, "Mommy, you can't cook! Only Mama (their Grandma) knows how to cook!" Still, they started eating some of my burnt crackers because they enjoyed dipping it to the spicy vinegar.
How to Cook Crackers without Burning them 😏
My mom came down to save the day because she smelled something burning. 😂 She fried a new set of crackers while giving me a lecture. So this is how to cook crackers properly. See her steps below.
Onion and Garlic Crackers Cooked by Grandma |
- Use the traditional wok and pour a lot of oil so that the crackers will cook evenly.
- The stove should be in the medium fire and make sure the oil is really hot before pouring the crackers.
- Cook the crackers quickly to avoid burnt ones. I estimated it just took her 10-15 seconds and she moved out the crackers from the wok to the plate.
- Finally, serve it hot and include a nice dip of spicy vinegar (this is my idea!)
My Kids are #TeamMama
Again, my kids didn't forget to remind me that I should refrain from cooking anything. They said only Mama can cook in the house. For now, I have to let them think that way. I have to remind them that I cook and make foods that they also like and love. I will post them in the future for proof. 😂
